Hello again! It is McKenzie here from Girl Loves Glam! I have a small addiction to houndstooth print. That is why I was so excited when Expressions Vinyl started carrying their new patterned vinyl. I had a really ugly picture frame that I wanted to beautify, but I didn’t want to have to dedicate a whole lot of time giving it a makeover. I covered it with the houndstooth vinyl and it is like a totally new picture frame!
What you will need…
Houndstooth Permanent Vinyl (enough to cover your frame)
Picture Frame
Scissors
Razorblade
Spatula tool
Cut your houndstooth vinyl to the size of your picture frame leaving enough room around the edges to be able to wrap around the picture frame (mine is about an inch of extra vinyl on all 4 sides). If your picture frame is bigger than the vinyl, cut long strips of the vinyl to use on each side of the frame.
Turn vinyl over and pull off the backing. Place your picture frame on top of the sticky vinyl. Try to line up the vinyl as straight as you can to have a straight hounstooth vinyl pattern.
Fold over 2 far edges of the vinyl over the picture frame. Use a spatula tool as you work to make sure your vinyl is sticking.
Fold over the other 2 sides of the vinyl. Fold corners in (like wrapping a present) and cut off the excess vinyl before folding and sticking the vinyl to the picture frame.
Use your razorblade to cut out the center of your picture frame. It doesn’t have to be too straight or exact, just enough excess to be able to fold over the middle edges of your frame.
Cut slits into the corners of the vinyl to the corners of the picture frame. Begin folding over the inside edges of the vinyl onto the picture frame.
Use your spatula tool to smooth out your vinyl. Flip over your frame and… You are done!
Now you have a unique, patterned picture frame. You can also do this with solid colors of vinyl to cover picture frames that you can’t find the proper color of spray paint, it is too cold to let paint dry, or you just don’t want to inhale paint fumes!
