Hi, it’s Stephanie from A Geek In Glasses and I’m sharing with you the quick fix to my favorite blanket. This is a simple project and something to keep in the back of your mind before you toss out any torn or worn item.
This is my favorite blanket. The one I grab to curl up and snuggle with on the couch while reading, watching TV, you get it – my little piece of comfort. One day it was on the couch while our new puppy was on the couch. He is a chewer, and the next thing there was a hole in the blanket and it was seeping feathers everywhere.
Determined to fix my love, I measured the hole and cut a heart out of the heat transfer vinyl large enough to cover the hole. Since this hole wasn’t through both layers of the blanket, I was able to just press the heart shape using the iron and it was fixed.
If the hole would have been through both sides, a backer would have to be used, that can be as simple as a small piece of cotton placed on the back side of the hole then the vinyl would be pressed to the front and it was use the piece of cotton to adhere to. Or 2 of the same vinyl shapes could be cut and one could be placed on the front the other to the back
So, before getting rid of something think of the vinyl heat transfer as a quick way to mend the hole.

Love this idea! I have a comforter that is my DOG’s favorite and it has gotten a hole in one corner——- using your wonderful idea I can see a big dog bone-shaped piece of vinyl used to fix it!
I’m glad to help save another puppy loved blanket!! Good Luck!
Great idea!
Thank you for sharing.
Neat idea.
What do you think about knee patches for jeans?
Would the vinyl hold up to little boys who love to crawl around on their knees?
Will it wash well and stay on without a seam to secure it?
Carolyn
I really don’t know if it will hold up to that kind of wear and tear but I know that once it’s ironed on it’s tight. Just make sure that all the edges are pressed tight and it will wash well. I have washed this blanket many times since the patch and it has held up fine. If the holes are the whole way through you will have to place a backer on the inside of the leg ( 1. this makes a place for the vinyl to adhere to and 2.This prevents the vinyl from sticking to the other side of the pant leg.) So for staying power once it’s on it’s on, as for tons of crawling I don’t know how it would wear but it is vinyl, so I’m thinking it would last pretty well. Try it and let us know how it works out!!!
