i have these shoes.
and i’ve had them for years. at least six.
and they are getting worn….
fronts too…
and so when i saw this houndstooth vinyl (in PERMANENT) i knew i could recover them and give them a second life!!!
i just worked piece by piece….. (i always cut the vinyl larger than the spot i was filling)
and used my fingernail to make the indentions of where i needed to cut….
and then just used an exacto to make an exact cut…
for the heel…i just used pieces…the houndstooth is easy to match up..and small enough to not notice that it isn’t matched up perfect….
if you try to use big pieces you are going to have loads of bumps and wrinkles…little by little and it all lies pretty smooth and flat!!!!
half way there!
it actually went pretty fast!

and the after…

So fun and creative!! I love vinyl but I’d never thought to put it on worn out shoes. Too, too cute!
what an awesome idea! I’m TOTALLY going to try this! Thanks for the inspiration!
Okay, I have to ask a dumb question here. Exactly what kind of vinyl is that? In my head I’m just picturing that cheap drawer liner paper that i see every where. My second question is, how well does it hold up? I work retail and do about 6 hours of walking a day. Do you think spraying the shoes with some sort of clear coat would help or hut? I really want to try this with a boring pair of sensible brown heels I bought.
It is not contact paper. You can find it here. http://www.expressionsvinyl.com/catalog/update/12×24-permanent-patterned.html It is hard to say how well it would hold up for sure, but if a piece starts to come off you can always pull it off and add a new one…
I was so impressed that you thought of such a thing that I pinned it on pinterest. Genius and so cute!
I love that! What a way to give your shoes new life
I can’t wear heals but im going to try on some flats
Thx love ur blog
Where did you find the houndstooth vinyl? I’ve never really sought out vinyl so I’m not sure where to look. Can you help? I LOVE this idea, and I’m sure I have shoes that I could give new life to!
